Book groups begin in October.

Years 7+ Book Groups

3.05pm-4.00pm as advertised programme

Our Years 7+ Book Groups meet on alternate weeks to read, discuss and celebrate all things book related and share their reading experiences.

We have a varied programme of meetings throughout the year, some one-off, others take place over a number of weeks with students discussing a variety of themes and genres, celebrating Black History, LGBTQ+ History and Women’s History Months, participating in the Carnegie Medal Shadowing Scheme as well as book quizzes.

Mr Beniston

There is no need to attend every meeting, just sign-up in the library to book a place at the meeting you are interested in attending – spaces are limited and go very quickly.

Booking is required as pre-reading is essential to taking part!

Throughout April until mid June when the 2024 Medal Award Winners will be announced, Book Group members will be taking part in the Carnegies Shadowing Scheme, reading, discussing and reviewing the shortlist and voting for their favourite book. Take a look at last year’s 2023 Yoto Carnegies Shadowing Scheme to see what it’s all about.

Sixth Form Book Group

Wednesday, 3.05pm-4.00pm

Open to Years 12 and 13, the Sixth Form Book Group is planned and run by the group. It is a place for students interested in reading and books to meet, share and discuss their thoughts, questions and ideas with others.

To attend, read a copy of the book in advance of the meeting, make a note of anything you would like to discuss and then come along. Just speak to a member of the library staff if you are unsure and we will put you in contact with a member of the group.
